WIP it into shape (Part 3)

I had originally intended to make one post with progress updates each week, but it’s been exactly a month since my last update. I guess preparation for the Christmas holiday kept me from focusing on my WIP pile. I have had a lovely time travelling to spend time with family and friends and spending time with my 2 young boys while they are off of school.

I’ve also gotten distracted with watercolors – I’ve been participating in the #trailbound24 project from Max Romey (@trailboundsketches). See the bottom of this blog for a few of my favorites from this series!

This month, I prepared and sent off 3 quilts to the longarmer. I’ve also completed at least one pants mend (though I’ve lost count since it’s been a month). I also finished up 2 mini quilts and hung them on my wall. I didn’t end up touching my blog backlog like I previously mentioned.

In the first couple of weeks in January, I hope to get the draft of my next pattern finalized and sent to a tech editor. That will be a big task since it’s a project I’ve been working on here and there for a solid year and a half. If I’m able, I’d like to start my second sample of that quilt! Finally, I would like to begin addressing some of my blog backlog since I wasn’t ab le to address that in December.

The Lists

I’m going to list my projects by Quilting, Garments, and Other. For each new bog post, I’ll simply copy the list and update the status, highlighting the changes with orange text and progress that has been made. These lists are not in priority order, they’re just lists. I get to make progress in any order I choose 🤪

In case you’re not familiar, you can use the order given here to follow along as I make progress through each project.

Quilting projects typically progress in the following order: fabric and pattern selection, cutting, piecing, basting, quilting, and binding.

While I’m new to garment sewing, Ill use the following status updates for now, since I think they’re mostly right: fabric and pattern selection, pattern printing and cutting, fabric cutting, sewing.I also have some other crafty projects that I want to get out of my WIP pile. These are pretty random projects so they each get their own status update. I’ll do my best to make it make sense 😂.

  • Solitaire Quilt – pieced, backing pieced, backing made, mailed to longarmer!

  • Keystone Quilt – pieced, backing pieced, backing made, mailed to longarmer!

  • Brass Ring Quilt – pieced, backing pieced, backing made, mailed to longarmer!

  • Scrappy Campfire – pieced

  • “Make us truly thankful” wall hanging – pieced, awaiting a replacement block

  • Paper Triangles wall hanging – DONE!

  • Color Transparency mini block – DONE!

  • Front Door Quilt – wall hanging sample pieced, need to finish pattern and another sample

  • 2021 HST BOM – partially pieced

  • 2022 Roaring 20’s BOM – partially pieced

  • Luna Moth EPP block- pieced

Garments

  • Wrap top – fabric acquired, need to choose pattern (probably Hannah top/dress from By Hand London)

  • T-shirt upcycle – fabric chosen, need to pick a free t-shirt pattern

  • Assorted mending projects

    • mended 3 pairs of pants (2 high-quality mends, one passable)

    • removed 2 purses from my mending pile. They both had peeling fake leather and I determined that I would not be able to repair either. I hate throwing stuff away, but I also don’t need to keep it.

    • At least one jeans mend in December (i lost track)

Other

  • spoon – I started carving a spoon a few years ago and never finished

  • a crocheted project – i got halfway through a project years ago and the yarn has been taunting me since then. I want to use and enjoy something made out of the yarn rather than be haunted by it. I need to frog the project and pick a new one since i don’t remember what i was working on

  • my blog backlog – I have a backlog of blogs that are in “draft” form with almost no work don on them. They either need to be written or need to get out of the queue.

  • A secret writing project

  • A website re-design – I have some changes in mind and I need to work out exactly how I hope to accomplish those and what my goals are.
